It is definitely and easy topic to talk about when wanting to relate Theatre to my passions. I dont think their is a single person out there that couldn't atleast relate Theatre to one of the passions. I have 2 passions I can relate theatre too which are "being in a band" and "sports."
The single most thing that I would love to do in my life, career wise, would be to be in a band that is popular and sells albums in the millions. I would love to be that guy thats always on vh1 with his friends playing in a band on the top 10 or that guy that everyone notices going out to the bars or out to eat with his boys, and going to the awards would be awesome. I really want to be a guitarist in a band but I wouldn't mind being a guitarist/backup singer. Obviously, to be a singer in front of thousands of people you not only have to have confidence in yourself, you have to have an unbelievable voice. Having that practice of standing up in front of a class for a specified amount of minutes over and over again like you would do in the higher Theatre classes would definitely be a key way to get rid of that stage fright and gather that self confidence needed to sing in the crazy situations that they do now. Also, if I started partaking in Musical Theatre I would be performing in Musicals where I would get the help needed to strengthen my voice. Once again, what a better way to get practice than to actually present in front of crowds of a couple hundred in college.
I am a huge fan of sports. I love to watch all sports and play them. I'm not very good at any of the really but we all have dreams. And in them dreams, if I were a professional ball player of any sort, I would definitely be performing in that I would have interviews, especially if I were a popular player. Those people like Alex Rodriguez and Kobe Bryant are on sports center every other day, literally, wether its during their sports' season or during the offseason. Theatre would be related to this in that you are responding through a microphone and answering questions to an audience of possibly millions by television. Sometimes the interviewers ask the stupidest questions that would be rediculous to try to answer and Theatre could help this by helping you prepare for it ahead of time. I have also seen some players give an interview and they really just looked like they were talking into a microphone making no sense. You could possibly say the stupidest thing and you could easily be made fun of for it. You never know, this could some how put a damper on your reputation.
Overall, once again, theatre is a major part to another aspect of my life; my 2 passions of "being in a bands" and sports. And taking Theatre in my future classes would give me a big head start to being successful in the both of them.
